Office Hours is a newsletter and podcast about culture and conversations, written by Ernest Wilkins.
Hi! I’m Ernest Wilkins, a writer based in Chicago, Illinois. Over the years, I’ve written about culture for publications ranging from Pitchfork to Complex to the Chicago Reader.
I’ve learned over the years that there are very few resources where business people can learn about cultural trends in context. I also realized there are very few resources for the people who create those cultural trends to learn all the biz lingo and contextual information they don’t teach you. So I made one.
Expect interviews with the people behind big cultural moments, case studies, trend forecasts and data presented in a way that won’t put you to sleep.
To catch you up to speed, here are the most popular reads:
#39: How To Create Your Own Cultural Movement — I used anecdotal data about the Soulquarians to help creatives connect with their audiences better.
#12: The Marathon Continues 🏁 — The Office Hours Interview with Dan Runcie of Trapital Media. Great if you love getting nerdy about music and tech.
#20: 6 Brands to Watch (Spring/Summer '19) — A “trend forecast” in the loosest sense of the word, a look at 6 brands that are nationally under-the-radar. (If you read this issue, you would have known about Malbon Golf a month before the NYT wrote about it. )
#9: Meet the woman who will tell you what you're going to wear next year. — The Office Hours Interview with Ayesha Siddiqi., a real-deal trend forecaster. In this issue, she gives a forecast that you won’t be able to unsee once you see it.
#40: The Office Hours Interview with Phil Chang — Great if you love the strategy behind marketing and advertising, as well as figuring out how to make better stuff.

A paid subscription gives you full access to the newsletter direct to your inbox, and makes it all available online, too. You also get perks like exclusive invites to podcast tapings, discounted/early access to live events I throw and some surprises!
Free subscribers get the podcast and most issues of Office Hours, although the full archive is only available to paid subscribers so you know what to do!
Can I forward the emails?
When it comes to the free posts, spread them as far and as wide as you like, on whatever platform you currently prefer. Occasionally forwarding subscribers-only emails is just fine too.
