#72: Just Another Night
A bunch of stuff to catch up on while you're practicing social distancing!
MUSIC THING:
The Numero Group guide to Sister Funk
A compilation jams recorded by the women of early funk music. Aretha Franklin’s “Rock Steady” is on this playlist, which should be an indicator that this playlist can be trusted to deliver maximum enjoyment.
If you like funky music and need a playlist to work/dance around your house, this is IT.
MARKETING THING:
The Origin of Bagel Bites and Hot Pockets.
While we’re on the subject, I believe Hot Pockets are just gentrified empanadas.

CULTURE THING:
The Butches and Studs Who’ve Defied the Male Gaze and Redefined Culture
I am in LOVE with this interactive feature on butch/stud lesbian culture in the NYT!!!!! This was a very insightful (and fun!) look into a culture that doesn’t get much recognition on a scale of a NYT Magazine feature that often.
Now, let’s pause to reflect on the greatness that is Meshell N’degeocello. That’s her in the white sweatshirt and orange/red skully in the top left of the above photo!!!!
Until tomorrow…
