#78: When Worlds Collide
A bunch of stuff to catch up on while you're practicing social distancing!
MUSIC THING:
Founded in 2008, Mixcloud, the British music streaming service announced this week that they would be opening up access to the Mixcloud Live service early due to the pandemic. Mixcloud Live aims to be the solution for DJs and creators who have lost revenue because of cancelled/postponed events.
Much has been made about Instagram given the massive star power on the platform, but Mixcloud Live might become a go-to option, if only because the platform allows creators to earn income from their fans who support the channel for a small monthly contribution. That’s a game-changer for DJ’s, who now can play live for audiences all over the world without worrying about getting dinged by music copyright takedowns while getting paid to do it.
Shawn Reynaldo’s sick newsletter First Floor — which you should subscribe to if you listen to or work in the world of elecronic music — features an interview with Mixcloud co-founder Nico Perez about the service and how it can help DJ’s and creators.
